In this project, I had the task of designing an onboard kids trayliner to keep young travellers entertained during their journey. I created a hand-drawn and digitally edited trayliner featuring a map of Eurostar's main destinations, along with iconic landmarks. I also created stickers for kids to colour and place on the trayliner. It was a fun and creative project to work on!
Research
Moodboard:
The moodboard focuses on fun and recognisable symbols, landmarks and dishes from the main Eurostar destinations. For England, I included iconic items like fish and chips, Big Ben, black taxis, afternoon tea and cake. In France, I featured the Eiffel Tower, croissants, macaroons, cheese, and baguettes. For Belgium, I highlighted famous waffles, the Atomium, and mussels with chips. The Netherlands showcases Amsterdam's canal houses, bikes, clogs, and tulips. Since this is designed for children, I emphasised well-known landmarks and cultural icons to help them easily associate each destination with its unique charm.
I had the idea to create a playful map including all the Eurostar destinations. The map would highlight iconic landmarks, local dishes, and unique features of each destination, all illustrated in a charming, cartoonish style similar to a children’s book. To promote the new trains, I wanted to show the new Eurostar train travelling through each city. Additionally, I planned to include stickers for each destination, such as a croissant for France or Big Ben for London, that kids could color in. This would make the map not only educational but also fun and memorable.
Stickers:
I narrowed down the selection for the stickers and drew them by hand and edited them digitally ready for print.
London: Afternoon Tea, London Taxi, Fish & chips, teapot and cup.

Paris: Baguette, Cheese and Croissant.
Brussels: Mussels & Chips and Waffles.
Amsterdam: Bike and Tulips.
Landmarks for the map:
I decided to have the landmarks placed on the map so that it would be easier to identify each country with its specific landmark. London has the Big Ben, Paris has the Eiffel Tower, Brussels has the Atomium, and Amsterdam has the Amsterdam canal houses.
Eurostar train:
In celebration of the launch of the new Eurostar e320 trains, I wanted to draw and include this train on the trayliner map.

Layout:
Once the illustrations for each element were complete, I shifted focus to designing the trayliner layout. I decided to feature the four destinations on a map, marking iconic landmarks for each country, such as the Eiffel Tower in France. I then experimented with different sticker placements to find the most effective layout. Once I confirmed the stickers fit within the designated areas, I removed them so they could serve as colour-in elements for the kids. Finally, I added colour to the remaining parts of the map and finalised the layout by incorporating the copy, preparing it for print.
